Time Building

After earning a Commercial Pilot Certificate, one of the biggest challenges pilots face is building flight time consistently.

Aircraft availability, scheduling conflicts, and limited access to multi-engine time can slow progress and create long gaps between flights. Time building at Flight Training Network is designed to remove those barriers.

FTN offers structured time-building opportunities that help already-rated pilots maintain momentum, improve proficiency, and move closer to professional hiring minimums.

Who Time Building Is For

Commercial pilots building experience

Pilots working toward airline, corporate, or other professional minimums.

Pilots not planning to instruct immediately

Those who prefer alternatives to traditional CFI-based time building.

Career 2.0 pilots

Pilots transitioning into aviation who want efficient, intentional flight experience without unnecessary delays.

Time Building Options at FTN

Time building at FTN may include a combination of:

options vary by location, aircraft availability, & qualifications

Skip-CFI Pathways

For some pilots, instructing is not the preferred or immediate next step.

FTN supports alternative time-building pathways that allow qualified pilots to continue flying without committing to a flight instructor role right away.

These pathways are not shortcuts and do not bypass FAA requirements. They are designed to provide meaningful, loggable flight experience while preserving flexibility and career choice.

FTN works with each pilot to determine whether skip-CFI time building is appropriate based on experience, goals, and readiness.

Time building at FTN emphasizes access and consistency. Aircraft access varies by location and is confirmed during admissions planning. Pilots may have opportunities to fly:

  • Single-engine aircraft for hour accumulation
  • Multi-engine aircraft for advanced experience
  • Aircraft equipped with modern avionics and autopilot systems

All time-building activity at FTN follows structured safety standards and operational guidelines. FTN prioritizes safety, professionalism, and responsible experience building. Pilots are expected to:

  • Maintain currency and proficiency
  • Follow defined operating procedures
  • Fly with purpose and accountability

Time building is often a bridge between commercial certification and professional hiring opportunities. FTN can help pilots:

  • Determine how many hours they need
  • Identify the most efficient aircraft and locations
  • Align time building with long-term career goals
